I have often wondered why all dates start with coffee; and, maybe the answer lies in the tiny, aromatic pods that reach our cuppas to open droopy eyes wide open and keeps our brains functional even when things are going BLAH. Anyhow, we recently had a kickass time with culinary expert Rupali Dean, who invited us to experience a curated event at the Starbucks food and coffee pairing with Barista champion and coffee master Monica. The masterclass in coffee was a lesson in coffee pairings concentrating on the coffee beans and the different techniques used for each kind of brew that one can enjoy at the café.
While we met some other curious foodies and chefs at the event along with the marketing heads of the Starbucks India, who introduced us to some of the most interesting aspects about the process of coffee creation – from beans to brews. From Cottage Cheese Wrap to Almond Croissant, Vanilla Cruffin, Turkey Ham and Cheddar Cheese Potato Bake and Cream Cheese and Blueberry Muffin – your coffee can work well with some yummy snacks and desserts.
A cool thing about Starbucks that even if you have no idea about coffee or anything to do with coffee and food pairing, you can ask the coffee masters at the store for their unique coffee expertise. Whether it’s for finding a new favorite beverage or pairing suggestion, or for learning how to brew coffee at home, the barista will guide you quite well. How to find them? Well, a coffee master is a barista with the special designation of the black apron, which is given to them after passing written and taste tests.
At the heart of the bar, lies the White Eagle (manual espresso machine) which makes quality and consistency of the espresso shot its mission. The Chemex is another example of a manual pour-over method. The Chemex is an elegant one-piece hourglass shaped vessel, made of high quality, heat-resistant glass. What distinguishes the Chemex most is its special filters. They remove more of the coffee oils for exceptionally clean coffee. The Green Park store is also the first store in Delhi to offer the Starbucks Nitro Cold Brew, a small-batch cold brew coffee which is slow-steeped, infused with nitrogen for a naturally sweet flavor and velvety smooth feel.
And, while they taught us the facts about coffee, we were encouraged to share them with our followers on social media – and guess who won the social media contest at Starbucks? Yours truly!
