Delhi-based designer and couturier Gaurav Gupta has always been a hot-favourite among A-listers from Bollywood and fashion world, and his secret for success are the “conceptual avant-garde” designs that are a part of his fantasy world. For this edition of the Amazon India Couture Week 2015 the designer gives Miss Junebug an exclusive tour of his fantasy world called ‘Silt and Cipher’.

“The forest is a place of magic,” begins the designer adding, “It’s the natural state of wild land where strange things might occur and strange people might live. The collection ‘Silt and Cipher’ gives form and definition to Indian silhouettes – playing with layering, drama, intricate embroideries and flowing fabrics. There is an abstract process to my collection; it is like having a personal dialogue or showcasing a thin line between fantasy and reality. There are certain magical elements in this collection in a fantasy state. There would be about approximately 40 outfits that will be showcased at the show.”

It took Gaurav about two and a half / three months to put this collection together. He elaborates further, “We have used intricate and delicate embroideries and zardozi on a colour palette inspired by the skylight to nightfall colors of the forest. Fabrics used are silk organza, chiffon, georgette, silk crepe, silk dupion, delicate laces and. One will see concept drapings in the ensembles, along with A Line lace jackets, long jackets, peplum tops, trousers, layered skirts, sari lehengas and gowns, flared and pleated skirts, corsets and capes as part of this collection.”
